Undergraduate Capstone Supervision

If you’re keen to do your capstone project under my supervision, do note that I generally take very few students and will be very selective in who I decide to supervise. I also have a few key requirements in the types of capstone projects I supervise:

  • I usually do not supervise whole new proposals or topics that are completely new (even if they’re related to my areas of expertise), and I definitely would not supervise any topic that is not in line with my area of expertise. I generally only supervise capstone projects that are directly related to my ongoing research projects.
  • I supervise only purely-quantitative research projects and I do not supervise qualitative or mixed-methods research projects at the Capstone level.
  • I view capstone projects no differently from actual research, and don’t see it as “do for the sake of doing” or “do for the sake of graduating”—if this is your primary motivation (which is completely understandable), I don’t think I am the right fit as supervisor for you! I generally expect undergraduate capstone projects to nevertheless be scientifically compelling and to have the potential for being included in a peer-reviewed publication or a conference presentation.

If you are keen to be my capstone student, please reach out to me about 3 ~ 6 months before the start of your Capstone so I can consider whether you’d be a good fit for my lab and so we can get started with some aspects of the Capstone such as conceptualisation and design. If you reach out to me too late, I am unlikely to take any more students for capstone supervision.
